Is fixed braces the right solution for you?

Fixed braces allow for precise movement of individual teeth and can be used for various orthodontic irregularities.

The suitability of the therapy depends on the position of the teeth, the relationships between the jaws, the health of the teeth and gums, and the goals of the therapy.

Fixed braces can be considered if:
  • you have crowded or overlapped teeth
  • There are spaces between the teeth
  • some teeth are not properly positioned in the dental arch
  • You have a malocclusion
  • Precise movement of multiple teeth is required
  • you want to improve the position of your teeth before prosthetic or aesthetic therapy

What is a fixed orthodontic appliance?

Fixed braces consist of brackets attached to the teeth and an orthodontic archwire connecting them.

During therapy, the system applies controlled forces that gradually move the teeth into the planned position. The appliance remains on the teeth throughout the active phase of therapy and is adjusted during regular check-ups.

The goal of therapy is not only to straighten visible teeth, but to achieve the most harmonious relationship between the teeth and a functional bite.

Fixed or clear braces?

Both options can serve to correct tooth position, but the method of treatment and daily use differ.

Fixed braces are permanently attached to the teeth and do not require the patient to put them on or take them off themselves. Clear aligners use a series of removable trays that need to be worn according to a prescribed schedule.

Which option is more appropriate depends on the type of orthodontic irregularity, the required movements, age, habits, and the ability to consistently follow the therapy.

The duration of the treatment depends on the type and extent of the orthodontic irregularity and the way the teeth respond to movement. An exact timeframe can be estimated after diagnostics and the creation of the treatment plan.

Simply placing braces usually does not require a painful procedure. After placement or adjustments, temporary sensitivity and a feeling of pressure are possible as the teeth adapt to the new forces.

Checkups are scheduled according to the phase of therapy and the individual plan. They are used to monitor tooth position and adjust the appliance as needed.

It is necessary to carefully clean the area around the brackets, between the teeth, and along the gumline. The orthodontist will recommend the appropriate toothbrush and interdental aids.

It is recommended to avoid very hard, sticky foods and foods that can easily damage braces or wires. Harder foods can often simply be cut into smaller pieces.

In certain cases it can, but the position of the teeth in one jaw affects the bite with the other. Therefore, the decision is made only after evaluating the entire bite.

It is possible. Orthodontic treatment is not limited only to children and adolescents, but before starting, it is important to assess the health of the teeth, gums, and supporting tissue.

As a rule, retention is an important part of therapy because teeth tend to shift even after braces are removed. The type and duration of retainer wear are determined individually.
