Fissure sealing

A simple procedure by which we „seal“ deep grooves on the teeth so that less food gets trapped and the teeth remain protected from cavities.

Back teeth have natural pits and grooves where food debris and plaque are more easily trapped. If the fissures are deep and difficult to reach with a toothbrush, the risk of tooth decay can be higher.

Sealing can be considered if:

A fissure is a natural groove on the chewing surface of posterior teeth. In some teeth, these grooves are very narrow and deep, so toothbrush bristles cannot clean them completely.

Sealing applies a thin protective material to such a surface, closing deep depressions and creating a smoother surface for easier maintenance.

The procedure does not replace daily toothbrushing or regular check-ups, but acts as an additional preventive measure.

Sealing is a preventive procedure and is applied to a tooth that does not yet have damage requiring conventional treatment.

If the caries has already developed deeper into the tooth, sealing alone is not enough. Then it is necessary to remove the affected tissue and, depending on the findings, restore the tooth with an appropriate procedure.

That is why an examination is important before deciding on sealing — the goal is to protect the healthy tooth, not to cover up an existing problem.
