CANDIDATES

Is a mobile retainer the right solution?

Removable braces are most commonly used in children and adolescents while their jaws are still developing, but their application depends on the type of orthodontic irregularity.

I can help guide growth, create space for teeth, or correct certain jaw relationships.

A removable appliance may be considered if:
  • The child is still growing and developing.
  • there is an irregularity in the relationship between the upper and lower jaw
  • It is necessary to create additional space for permanent teeth
  • Certain teeth need to be guided into a more correct position.
  • There is a need for early orthodontic treatment
  • The orthodontist wants to prepare the conditions for later fixed appliance therapy

What is a removable orthodontic appliance?

A removable orthodontic appliance is custom-made to individual measurements, and the patient can insert and remove it independently.

Depending on the type, it can affect the position of individual teeth, the width of the dental arch, or the relationships between the jaws during growth.

Patient cooperation is especially important for the success of the therapy. The appliance only works while it is being worn, so it is necessary to adhere to the recommended wearing time.

Removable or fixed braces?

Mobile and fixed braces do not always have the same purpose.

Removable braces are often used during growth and development stages and for specific orthodontic anomalies. Fixed braces allow for more precise movement of individual teeth and are more frequently used when detailed alignment of the dental arch is necessary.

For some patients, removable appliances can be the first step, followed by fixed braces or clear aligners.

It is most commonly used in children and adolescents during the growth and development of the jaws. The right time for therapy depends on the type of malocclusion and the stage of dental development.

The recommended wearing time depends on the type of appliance and the goal of the therapy. The orthodontist provides individual instructions that are important to follow.

Most removable braces are taken off during meals, but the exact instructions depend on the type of braces.

The appliance must be cleaned regularly according to the orthodontist's instructions and stored in the appropriate case when not in the mouth.

After placement or adjustment, pressure or mild sensitivity may be felt. If the discomfort is severe or lasts longer, it is necessary to contact an orthodontist.

For certain irregularities it can be sufficient, while for others it is only part of the therapy. For precise tooth alignment, a fixed or clear aligner is sometimes needed later.

Since the removable appliance only works while it is being worn, insufficient cooperation can slow down the progress or limit the result of the therapy.

Agreed. When it is not in the mouth, it is recommended to store it in a protective case and avoid exposure to high temperatures.
