Who are dental implants intended for

The suitability of the therapy depends on oral health, the quantity and quality of the bone, general health condition, and the ability to maintain good oral hygiene.

Dental implants may be considered if:
  • You are missing a tooth
  • you are missing several adjacent teeth
  • you want to avoid grinding down healthy adjacent teeth to make a bridge
  • you have a removable denture that needs extra stability
  • You are missing a larger number of teeth or an entire dental arch
  • you are looking for a longer-term fixed prosthetic solution
  • You have enough bone for the implant or there are conditions for its augmentation.

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is an artificial substitute for a tooth root that is placed into the jawbone. Once the implant stably integrates with the surrounding bone, a single crown, bridge, or denture can be placed on it.

The implant, abutment, and crown are not the same part of the treatment. The implant is located in the bone, the abutment connects it to the final prosthetic restoration, and the crown makes up the visible part of the new tooth.

When replacing a single tooth, an implant can allow restoration without grinding down adjacent teeth. It can also be used as a support for bridges or dentures when a larger number of teeth are missing.

Implant or dental bridge?

Both solutions can replace a missing tooth, but they differ in the method of placement and the conditions they require.

A dental bridge usually relies on adjacent teeth, while an implant creates a separate foundation in the jawbone. Therefore, in certain cases, an implant allows for the replacement of a single tooth without removing the healthy tissue of adjacent teeth.

A bridge may be more suitable when the adjacent teeth already require prosthetic restoration or when implant therapy is not recommended. The choice depends on the condition of the teeth, the amount of bone, the bite, health factors, and your priorities.

A dental implant is an artificial root replacement that is placed into the jawbone. After healing, a crown, bridge, or other prosthetic work is placed on it.

The procedure is most commonly performed under local anesthesia. After the placement, swelling, sensitivity, and discomfort may occur, the intensity of which depends on the extent of the procedure and individual reaction.

The installation itself and the overall treatment are not the same. The surgical procedure is usually followed by a healing period before the final prosthetic restoration is made. The exact duration is determined individually.

Durability cannot be predicted equally for every patient. It depends on bone and gum health, oral hygiene, smoking, general health, bite, and regular check-ups.

Not necessarily. It is necessary to evaluate the bone volume, the condition of the gums, oral hygiene, and general health status. The final decision is made after an examination and diagnostics.

In certain cases, bone augmentation or a sinus lift may be performed to create more suitable conditions for an implant. The possibility and scope of such a procedure are evaluated individually.

They need to be cleaned daily with a toothbrush and appropriate interdental aids, and you need to regularly attend professional check-ups and cleanings.
