What to do when a tooth is missing?

What to do when a tooth is missing?

Implant or bridge

There are many reasons for extracting a tooth, but they all have one thing in common — you should not wait long before replacing the missing tooth. Today, the tooth is often extracted and the implant placed in the same visit. Besides an implant, a tooth can also be replaced with a bridge. A bridge is a fixed prosthetic restoration anchored to the neighbouring teeth and can replace one or more teeth. The neighbouring teeth are prepared (reshaped) to make room for the bridge material and the tooth being replaced.

A dental implant consists of three parts: the implant (a screw) placed in the bone, and the abutment that holds the crown when a single tooth is being replaced.

What determines how long it lasts

For an implant or bridge to last, the patient’s own oral hygiene plays an important role, alongside high-quality work by the dentist.

Which is better?

Patients often ask which option is better. There is no single answer, because oral health and general health differ from patient to patient, and not everyone is a candidate for dental implants. So if you would like to replace a tooth, get in touch with our dentists, who will go through a treatment plan with you.
